Over the past three weeks, you have been learning about the qualitative and quantitative research process.You have gained insights into the different methods for conducting nursing research.Prior to any research being conducted, a potential research studyis reviewed andapproved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB)and/or an ethics committeeat the institution where data will be collected.

Background Information
The Tuskegee study is a true event that occurred in 1932 in Macon County, Alabama in which African Americans were promised treatment for bad blood. Thisstudy wasmarred bynumerous ethical misconducts.Events such as the Tuskegee study, the Nuremberg trials, and other unethical researchpracticesled to the creation ofThe Nuremberg Code and The Belmont Report. The principles in these documentswere created toprotectparticipants from unethical research practices.
