Background
Oncology patients have a higher tendency to require central venous access devices (CVAD). This is due to frequent blood collection and admnistration of vesicant and irritant intravenous chemotherapy. The current practice of heparin saline administration might potentially put thrombocytopenic patient at risk of bleeding. There is also prevelance in normal saline and heparin saline flush would achieve the same effectiveness in maintaining patency.
