The A writer develops their analysis with evidence and explanations that are appropriate and convincing, referring to the source explicitly or implicitly. The A writer uses two to four pages to fully explore the source and its meaning, and is seemingly able to “unlock” the source in fresh and interesting ways. The A writer is able to make convincing connections between the persuasive choices made by the author, and the meaning of the piece.The challenge in this essay assignment is to produce an intellectual dissection of the assigned source (moving past simply cataloging the various persuasive tools and strategies) and deliver analysis that is convincing. The writing in a B essay is technically sound, smooth, and clear. The writing in a B essay is technically sound, smooth, and clear. The B writer decently develops their analysis with evidence and explanations that are appropriate and moderately convincing, referring to the passage explicitly or implicitly. The B writer uses two to four pages to explore the source and its meaning. Lastly, the B writer is able to make connections between the persuasive choices made by the author, and the meaning of the piece. C, C- 79-70 Adequate The C essay provides a basic summary of the source, and a basic presentation of the persuasive tools used to create meaning.
