Discussion Topic
This week we explored Segregation to Modern Racism and Institutional Discrimination for those of African American heritage. Explain the importance of Tulsa OK. Described why the Brown v Board of Education of Topeka decision is so important? What was its relationship to Jim Crow? Why were there differences in the goals of the civil rights movement and black power movement. Explain the similarities and differences do you see in today’s protests when compared to that of the 1960s. Explain the role of women in the protests of the 1960s and today protests.
My opinion;
I am a strong believer that music can be a great way to understand many inequalities. As a therapeutic tool, this is a way to understand someone’s experiences by asking what they identify with in their choice of music.
How does music reflect some of the themes we read in this chapter? Below are some possible songs that reflect some these themes of earlier times but there are many more and feel free to discuss other songs. Please analyze and discuss your song of choice and how it reflects the themes in chapters 6 (and in our previous chapter 5). Are there songs that reflect our current situations (i.e., Beyonces new release, Black Parade, John Legends newly released album, Bigger Love, and its connection not resilience)
