GSP168: Literature and Society: An Introduction Question Essay: For ‘The Coffin is Too Big for the Hole’, you will discuss in a brief essay your interpretation of the play and relate it to contemporary Singapore society. That is, you are to explain what you think the play means in the social context of modern Singapore by citing specific examples from the text. Your interpretation should follow the course guidelines on performing a close reading analysis and writing a brief summary of the narrative. In your essay, you should develop a limited and coherent thesis statement, and demonstrate a critical analysis of the play by referring to its use of textual forms and expressions. However, you are not required to submit any of the close-reading or summary materials. You are only required to submit the essay.
