The purpose of this assessment is to demonstrate your understanding of these concepts in the context of cosmetic nursing. There is a growing body of evidence that links use of social media with body image concerns and the increasing popularity of cosmetic enhancements. For this assessment you are required to write an essay that represents your analysis of current literature on these constructs. Your essay should: • discuss how social media influences society’s ideals for appearance, or body image – include gender and age variations • examine how these ‘appearance ideals’ can result in negative body image for some individuals • review the relationship between negative body image and desire for cosmetic alterations.
