I work for a medical device company that was founded in 1941 by an orthopedic surgeon Dr. Homer Stryker from Kalamazoo Michigan America. He found at that time that the current medical procedures weren’t meeting his patient’s needs so he invented new ones. Today Stryker is one of the world’s leading medical device companies. Stryker makes a variety of products but I work in the orthopedic plant where our top-selling product would be Stems for hip operations. In my plant in Tullagreen, Carrigtwohill there are currently 1100 employees varying from engineers to manufacturing team members our mission is “Together with our customers we are driven to make healthcare better.”
I am part of the team for five and a half years now and I work in the packaging cell where I inspect all finished product and label it correctly before they leave the factory. Our factory opened in 1998 and is 110,00sq feet in size. We are 1 out of 5 plants in Cork our leading competitor would be DuPuy Synthes in Ringaskiddy. Both factories make orthopedics, but Stryker would be leading in technology at the moment.
