Briefly describe the initiative in your own words within in your post. Critically evaluate the initiative basing your response on the course curriculum and your own experience” MY ORIGINAL THREAD – Amazon is the world’s largest online retailer and logistics company. Due to the size of the company and its societal impact, a lot is expected of Amazon in terms of corporate social responsibility. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon was responsible for contributions up to $4billion towards COVID-19 relief initiatives that include testing, food, funds, employee bonuses and even laptops for public school students in Seattle. This is all in an effort to curb the spread of the virus while also assisting those most affected by the negative effects of the pandemic. In my opinion, these are solid efforts that display Amazon’s welcoming attitude towards corporate social responsibility, the people and communities that would be benefiting from the initiative could have been more negatively exposed to the effects of pandemic but Amazon has given them a helping hand and shown once again that they are in touch with issues that affect the world in general. One frequent question that comes up is whether or not Amazon is doing enough, considering then amounts of profit they bring in. I believe that while it may seem like the charitable thing to do, Amazon is also obligated to increase the wealth of its investors and therefore has some limit to what it can spend on charitable causes. As a leader in the automobile industry, it has made amazing achievements in protecting the environment and reducing environmental pollution. Tesla Company use the environment, health and safety as the guiding principles, and they promise not to betray them for the sake of profit. Tesla provided a large number of jobs for the society, such as helping veterans get a job, and provided a large number of internships to the society, Tesla became the most attractive employer. In terms of talent training, they work with some high schools or college to train excellent employees for themselves and help the government solve educational problems at the same time. Tesla’s contribution to education also invested in the “K12” education program and hosted more than 200 girls to participate in the “Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day”. Tesla’s contribution to environmental protection and helping energy renewable development is also impressive, such as providing a lot of unpaid help to Australia during the wildfire disaster in 2019. Tesla also helped the government build the world’s largest lithium-ion battery in Australia. Tesla’s founders want to be able to build cars from renewable sources. Another typical behavior is that Tesla cars’ batteries can be extended as long as possible before being recycled. Tesla’s efforts for sustainable development are amazing, at the same time, it also leads to my thinking. In recent days, it is reported that there are frequent accidents in Tesla’s car, so should Tesla pay more attention to the quality of its products while fulfilling its social obligations?
