Journal Article Critique

Journal Article Critiques enable you to practice thinking critically and synthesize information. Do not quote from the article. Instead, summarize and paraphrase.

Your review must be written in your words and include at least 2 (two) scholarly citations in APA format 7th edition. Make sure to include a title page, abstract, and reference page. In addition to an introduction and conclusion, make sure to respond to the following questions :

Using the attached article analyze the study’s research methodology, and conceptualize the research findings and policy implications so that you will be able to answer these questions:

1. What are the article’s title and purpose?

2. Who is/are the author(s) of the article and what are his/her/their qualifications?

3. What are the author(s)’ theoretical assumptions?

4. What is the article’s hypothesis?

5. How is the hypothesis supported or rejected? What makes the supporting points credible?

6. How does the article fit into other literature on the topic?

7. What other articles or research support the authors’ main points?

8. Does the article advance the work in a given field?

Regarding the research findings presented in the article, support these research findings with additional journal articles that not only align with the research findings from the article you chose to review but also research articles that present research findings that are disparate, or different from, the findings addressed in the article you chose to critique.

Please do not simply write a summary of what the journal article is about. Submitting only a summary of the research findings will result in points being deducted. Remember, a journal critique points out the strengths and weaknesses of the study’s research methodology (i.e., type of study [quasi-experimental, experimental, etc.], sampling techniques, sample population, etc.). In other words, point out its weaknesses but also highlight the strengths.
