The DESCRIPTION: The project objective is to study the performance of an air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation system (ACMV) through performance simulation of system key components, namely, chillers, cooling towers, evaporator, compressor, condenser, and various types of Air Handling Units complete with Building automation system (BAS).
The purpose is also to establish a correlation between “system and components” performance, assuming each key component is independent of one another for the purpose of this project. You are to demonstrate a system-level approach via system simulation.
This method of working captures all required information for components, without the computational overhead associated with 3D geometry-based approach. It makes it feasible to simulate entire systems in both steady-state and transient.
The approach can be applied across industries at various points of the design and operation life- cycle. The simulation study is to be conducted using CFD, MATLAB, SOLIDWORK, or equivalent. The student is also expected to study overall system performance aimed to improve the methodology
