Seen from a different angle, “Meneseteung” and “Bullet in the Brain” are stories
centered on acts of violence. Violence is, likewise, at the heart of many other texts we have studied, e.g., “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas,” every version of “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Notes of a Native Son,” 17776 (Bois: “I see a really clear parallel between America and football: both are beautiful, and both
destroy people”), “Xinona,” The Edward Curtis Project… Going over the syllabus
thinking about it, I find that I could include most of our readings on this list.
Develop a thesis that compares the treatment of violence in “Meneseteung” or “Bullet in the Brain” and one other course text—and be sure it is a critical thesis, answering a critical question.
