From this foundational knowledge, teacher candidates select, adapt, and use research-based methodologies and interventions in academic and specialized mathematics curricula to plan specially designed instruction that advances the learning of all students, including students with mild to moderate disabilities. Emphasis is placed on using multiple assessments that ethically and equitably measure students’ prior knowledge and growth and can be used to plan mathematics instruction.
