Module C OVERVIEW: EDP Ethical Dilemma Project Optional – Extra Credit Opportunities (ECO) The Ethical Dilemma Project (EDP) is optional for extra credit, but purposefully engages you in direct experience and focused reflection. It is designed to clarify your values, develop your skills to address complex situations legally, ethically, and strategically, expand your understanding of a special education leader's duties, and prepare you to make informed, ethical leadership decisions. The EDP comprises four parts that subsequently build upon one another to illustrate the critical role of ethical decision-making in special education leadership. Note: Extra Credit Opportunity (ECO) "A" requires the completion of EDP Parts 1 and 2 and serves as a prerequisite for ECO "B," which involves completing EDP Parts 3 and 4. PART 1: Identifying Your Core Values and Value Statement The assignment in part one begins with you critically examining your values and establishing a set of non-negotiable core values and a value statement to ground the decisions you make in the scenario you encounter in part two. Part 2: Ethical Dilemma Scenario: This learning experience simulates a real-life ethical dilemma you could encounter as a leader in special education. This simulation will develop your skills to legally, ethically, and strategically address complex situations, expand your understanding of a special education leader's role, and test your non-negotiable core values. Part 3: Special Education Leader Interview: In this valuable experience, you gain a deeper understanding of ethical leadership through the lens of a current special education leader. In this learning opportunity, you will have the chance to interview a current special education leader, delving into their experience and perspective on contemporary issues in special education, ethical decision-making, and problem-solving strategies. It provides insight into special education leadership that you can reflect upon in your EDP reflection essay. Part 4: Reflection (Narrative) Essay: In this part, you will reflect upon the EDP experiences and express your leadership growth, development, understanding, and knowledge gained regarding special education leadership, contemporary issues, and the critical role personal values play in ethical decision-making.
