For this assignment, you will select one of the following monologues or soliloquies from Macbeth:
1. Lady Macbeth’s speech in Act 1, Scene 5: Starting from “They met me on the day of success…” until “To cry ‘Hold, hold!”
2. Macbeth’s speech in Act 2, Scene 1: Starting from “Is this a dagger which I see before me…” until “That summons thee to heaven, or to hell.”
3. Macbeth’s speech in Act 3, Scene 1: Starting from “To be thus is nothing” until “And champion me to th’ utterance. Who’s there?”
Complete a passage analysis on the speech you select. Your passage analysis must make detailed references to the various literary devices used by Shakespeare, for what purpose they are used, and how they reflect the themes and ideas of the play while also developing the character giving the speech. Additionally, your essay must include at least two reliable secondary sources (for example, from folger eciu) that support your analysis.
