STEP 1: Choose One Variable from Your Dataset

Pick one numerical variable (e.g., Sales, Age, Test Scores, Revenue, etc.) from your dataset. Let’s say your variable is Monthly Sales.


 STEP 2: Generate Descriptive Statistics in Excel

  1. Open your Excel file with the data.

  2. Go to Data > Data Analysis > choose Descriptive Statistics.

  3. Select your input range (your chosen variable column).

  4. Check the box for Summary statistics.

  5. Click OK.

This will give you:

  • Mean

  • Median

  • Mode

  • Standard deviation

  • Range

  • Min/Max

  • Count, etc.


✅ STEP 3: Create a Histogram

  1. Go to Data > Data Analysis > choose Histogram.

  2. Select the input range and a bin range (Excel will use bins to group your data).

  3. Check “Chart Output.”

  4. Click OK.

  5. You’ll get a frequency table and a histogram chart.


✅ STEP 4: Insert into Word Document

Open Microsoft Word. Create a document with the following structure:

Briefly explain the purpose of the analysis.
Example:
This report analyzes the variable ‘Monthly Sales’ to understand the distribution, central tendency, and dispersion of sales figures. The goal is to derive meaningful insights that will support decision-making and performance improvements.”


2. Descriptive Statistics Table

Paste the descriptive statistics table from Excel into Word.


3. Histogram

Paste the histogram chart into the document under the table.


4. Interpretation of Results

  • Discuss what the mean and standard deviation tell you about the data.

  • Comment on skewness (if visible).

  • Talk about whether the data shows consistency, outliers, or trends.


5. Recommendation and Plan of Action

Give 2–3 actionable recommendations based on the analysis.
Example:

  • Since the sales data is right-skewed, we recommend additional marketing focus on underperforming regions.”

  • Standard deviation indicates wide variation. Management should investigate sales training effectiveness across teams.”


6. Conclusion

Summarize key points and stress the value of data-informed decisions.
