The physiology of pain and factors that affect the client’s perception of that pain are discussed along with how the client’s culture plays a role in managing pain. Perceptions of pain and the effect of pain on the comfort and well-being of clients are examined. Health problems that relate to impaired sleep and interventions used to improve them will be identified. Additionally, content on sensoriperceptual and neurological impairments is discussed.
Objectives:
- Apply nursing assessment measures that incorporate pathophysiology, clinical findings, and common diagnostic studies related to alterations in sleep, sensoriperceptual issues, and perception of pain.
- Determine a client-centered, holistic plan of care related to alterations in sleep, sensoriperceptual impairments, and pain relief for an adult client.
- Analyze effectiveness of the plan of care and nursing interventions focused on sleep, sensoriperceptual impairments, and pain relief.
- Describe interdisciplinary health care team collaborative efforts for comprehensive client-centered care related to sleep, sensoriperceptual impairments, and pain relief.
