Honors Students: Complete this assignment according to the directions provided in the “Honors Addendum,” located in Class Resources.
Engage in a 7-10-minute conversation. During this time, you should use the key concepts of a therapeutic relationship and the strategies for establishing a therapeutic conversation.
Audio recording and notetaking during the conversation are not permitted.
Be aware of the time because you will be responsible for ending this conversation. Remember, you have four phases to this relationship.
When your time has concluded, put the therapeutic conversation into the format presented in the
“Therapeutic Communication Process Assessment Format” template, located in the Topic 7 Resources.
Review the following Topic 7 Resources which contain an explanation of the written Communication Process Assessment, techniques, and a sample of a written assignment.
“Applied Theory Through Communication Process Assessment and Sample”
“Therapeutic Communication Techniques”
“Nontherapeutic Communication Techniques”
Remember that a written communication process is a mapping and analysis of an actual therapeutic conversation between the student and another person. Carefully note the guidance and requirements provided in these resources.
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
