Course Description
In this course, students use the nursing process to systematically collect, validate, and communicate the physiological, psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, lifestyle, and functional assessment data for diverse adult clients. Students demonstrate client-centered interviewing skills and obtaining a health history, along with hands-on assessment techniques through supervised laboratory practice. Prerequisite: Admission into the nursing program
Objectives:
The following are the overall objectives for this course:
- Demonstrate how to obtain and document an accurate and complete health history that incorporates cultural, ethnic, and spiritual sensitivity.
- Evaluate the appropriateness of assessment techniques used with clients of varying ages and developmental and environmental levels.
- Perform a physical assessment on a client using appropriate assessment techniques within a systematic framework.
- Document the results of a physical assessment utilizing a systematic documentation record/framework.
- Communicate appropriately and effectively with clients and collaborate with other health care professionals regarding the health history and assessment process.
