In Topic 11, students are introduced to drug classifications for medications that reduce pain, inflammation, and fever. This includes mechanism of action, indications for use, and major adverse effects. Current topics like the opioid crisis will be a point of discussion.
Objectives:
- Discuss the mechanism of action, indications for use, and major adverse effects of drugs used to treat inflammation, fever, and pain
- Discuss the role of alternative and complementary therapies in the treatment of inflammation, fever, and pain.
- Identify client-related factors that influence the effects of drugs used to treat inflammation, fever and pain.
- Use the nursing process to determine safe care for a client who is receiving medications to reduce inflammation, fever and pain.
- Examine the interrelated legislative, policy, and practice implications of the contemporary opioid crisis.
