In Topic 5, students are introduced to drug classifications for body systems that are controlled by the central and peripheral nervous systems. Components include mechanism of action, indications for use, and major adverse effects.
Objectives:
- Discuss the mechanism of action, indications for use, and major adverse effects of selected drugs that affect central nervous system (CNS) and peripheral nervous system (PNS).
- Discuss interactions of alternative and complementary therapies with medications that affect the CNS and PNS.
- Identify client-related factors that influence the effects of drugs that affect the CNS, and PNS.
- Use the nursing process to determine safe care for a client who is receiving medications that affect the CNS and PNS.
