Welcome to NSG-320. This topic will review the course and the course assignments and begin med math review in preparation for Med Math PBA Part A. This topic will explore the endocrine system, diabetes types 1 and 2, hyperthyroidism, and hypothyroidism, including the chronic states of these diseases, as well as the diagnostics, medications, teaching, and nursing care of the client.
Objectives:
- Calculate dosages for oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, and IV-drip medications for a performance-based assessment.
- Utilize person-centered care, including respect for diverse individual differences, while implementing quality, evidence-based, safe, and equitable care for the achievement of client outcomes.
- Incorporate pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic studies related to type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, and hypothyroidism.
- Collaborate with the interprofessional partners to develop a comprehensive plan of care for adults with diabetes mellitus and thyroid problems.
- Apply the nursing process to plan, prioritize, and implement evidence-based, person-centered nursing management of adults with diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, and hypothyroidism, including ongoing assessment, medication education, self-care strategies, and follow-up care for any health setting.
- Build on previous knowledge to make use of medication classification, mechanism of action, indications for use, calculations, nursing considerations, major adverse effects, and evaluation of therapeutic effectiveness of selected medications used in the treatment of adults with diabetes, hyperthyroidism, and hypothyroidism.
- Evaluate outcomes of care, including medications, self-care effectiveness, and recognition of potential complications.
