Chronic neurological and cognitive problems will look at Parkinson’s disease, myasthenia gravis, Bell’s palsy, and multiple sclerosis. These chronic diseases are specific in how they manifest in the client. You will look at diagnostics, treatments, teaching, and medications. Different types of headaches and the difference between dementia, delirium, and Alzheimer’s disease will also be covered. What causes them, and what should a nurse teach the client?
Objectives:
- Incorporate pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and diagnostic studies related to chronic neurologic problems, Bell’s palsy, dementia, and delirium.
- Collaborate with interprofessional partners to develop a comprehensive plan of care for persons across the adult life span with chronic neurologic problems, Bell’s palsy, dementia, and delirium.
- Apply the nursing process to plan, prioritize, and implement evidence-based, person-centered, quality nursing management of adults with headaches, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, myasthenia gravis, Bell’s palsy, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and delirium, including ongoing assessment, age-related or diversity considerations, postoperative care, medication education, self-care strategies, and follow-up care for any health setting.
- Build on previous knowledge to make use of medication classification, mechanism of action, indications for use, calculations, nursing considerations, major adverse effects, and evaluation of therapeutic effectiveness of selected medications used in the treatment of adults with headaches, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, myasthenia gravis, Bell’s palsy, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, and delirium.
- Evaluate outcomes of care, including medications, self-care effectiveness, and recognition of potential complications.
