Assessment Description
The purpose of this assignment is to help you assess the daily challenges faced by persons with schizophrenia. You will also develop improved clinical practice skills and evaluate interventions for clients suffering from schizophrenia.
An infographic is a collection of imagery, charts, and minimal text that gives an easy-to-understand overview of a topic (in this case, showcasing caring for clients with schizophrenia and auditory hallucinations). For guidance on infographics, refer to the topic Resource, “Images, Infographics and Graphics Resources.”
Complete the following:
Video
Watch the video “Symptoms of Schizophrenia Explained by – A Beautiful Mind (2001),” located in the topic
Resources.
- The movie A Beautiful Mind was based on the life of the great mathematician Dr. John Nash. Dr. Nash was fortunate to have the support of friends and family throughout his illness, enjoyed good looks, and had great career success. How many individuals suffering from schizophrenia fare differently who do not have the same opportunities, such as attractiveness, family support, or career success?
- Considering the movie was based on events during the 1940s and 1950s, what medications may have been used to treat Dr. Nash? What side effects may have caused Dr. Nash to discontinue his medications? What are the advantages and disadvantages of current antipsychotics?
Research
Research schizophrenia spectrum disorders and their symptoms:
- What coping skills do people with schizophrenia use to help them cope?
- What will you do differently in your work with people who experience schizophrenia?
- What are the daily challenges faced by those with schizophrenia?
- Identify two local support networks/groups for people with schizophrenia.
Infographic
Using what you learned from the video and your own research, design your infographic using Microsoft Word or PowerPoint (1 slide only).
