Create a graphic image or visual model differentiating quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research. You can use PowerPoint, Smart Art in Word, or other software that creates a graphic. Be creative in your design. Include the following information in your graphic image or visual model: 

Compare and contrast quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research. Identify at least one similarity and difference for each. 

Provide an example of quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research. 

Explain why quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and research would be applied in a health care setting.

Quality Improvement (QI), Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) and Research 

Quality improvement (QI), evidence-based practice (EBP) and research are common terms in health practice. Research generates evidence used in EBP and EBP helps to improve care quality. Health care providers should understand the terms and their use comprehensively. The purpose of this paper is to differentiate the three terms using a visual model.  

 Comparison  Examples in Practice Application in a Health Care Setting  QI is the quest for better methods, processes, and outcomes. It is a framework for improving care by standardizing processes, reducing variations, and improving patient outcomes (Comfere et al., 2020). The primary focus areas include how care is delivered and the results. A collaborative process to replace paper-based records with electronic health records to increase accuracy and document retrieval speed. Engaging in QI helps to reduce variations between the desired care and the delivered care. It also helps to achieve the triple aim that encompasses improving population health, better patient experiences and outcomes, and reducing per capita cost of health care (Al Jasser & Almoajel, 2020). QI also promotes effectiveness, timeliness, and efficiency of care. EBP involves a meticulous, problem-solving approach to solving health care problems. It incorporates best evidence from scientific studies, clinical expertise, and patients’ values and preferences to improve patient care (Li et al., 2019). EBP applies the available knowledge from research to enhance health outcomes. Like QI, the primary purpose is outcomes’ improvement to achieve better patient care. Appraising research on diabetes and combining the knowledge with clinical expertise and patient values to develop an education program for diabetic patients. EBP would be applied in a health care setting to improve patient experience. It guarantees best practices that factor patients’ preferences and values. It is the foundation of patient-centered care. Research is the quest for new knowledge. It helps discover new advancements for promoting health and understanding issues in more detail (Chien, 2019). Unlike EBP and QI, research is broader since it does not primarily focus on clinical issues. However, it can have the same objectives as EBP and QI- to improve population health. Researching on treatment models for a highly infectious disease Research would be most appropriate when a new issue emerges. A suitable example is a disease requiring new treatment methods or highly contagious. 

Conclusion 

As illustrated in the model, the primary aim of research is to generate new knowledge. QI seeks to standardize processes to ensure better outcomes. EBP helps to solve clinical problems. Vividly, there is a specific goal to achieve in each part. It can also be established that QI, EBP, and research play a critical role in improving health outcomes.
