Task:
Material and critical load information of the optimization design You are required to design a bridge with an optimal stiffness using concrete. This design is supposed to be constructed by 3D construction printer. The concrete material has a Young’s modulus of 40GPa and Poisson’s ratio of 0.26. The critical designed load can be simplified as a concentrated load of 800kN in the middle of the bridge with a maximum deflection less than 2 mm.
Expected work from finite element analysis
You are expected to use Abaqus to check the performance of your design through the following steps
1. provide all required finite element analysis results listed in next section for the final optimal design (from 2D model)
2. check whether your optimal design is sensitive to small topology changes
3.build an FE model on an initiative design with a similar topology to the initial design region shown in Figure 2 but with same amount of material in your optimal design.
4. verify and validate the FE model of the initiative design, i.e. the experimental results on the initiative design show that the maximum deflection of the bridge under approximately concentrated load of 800 kN is around 0.3 mm.
