Professional Scenario:

You are working with a new talent agency and have been asked to scout for an artist to add to the agent’s management roster. Your role is to ?nd a suitable artist through research and analysis and pitch this to the talent agency to persuade the team to sign the artist to the roster.

You are required to deliver:

A 6-9 minute presentation with Pitch Deck (submitted via Canvas), that includes:

  • Analysis of your chosen artists’ music with a focus on potential avenues for future commercial exploitation
  • Analysis of live performances where applicable
  • Analysis of their self-promotional activities and online presence
  • Your arguments for the artist to be signed to the roster with evidence to support your decision
  • What commission you propose for the artist
  • Funding revenues that may be suitable for the artist
  • Proposed heads of terms/contract for the artist

Your ?nal product should suggest effective project planning has been employed in order to address the above requirements. It should also demonstrate application of technical ability and a clear link between theory discussed as a result of your research, and the practices evident in your portfolio.

You are required to incorporate input from other collaborators/stakeholders as part of your project, details of which you will need to disclose and discuss in your commentary.

Option 2: Company Rebrand

Professional Scenario:

A music industry organisation has asked you to help them rebrand their company. They would like you to review the way that they currently brand and market themselves to consider how effective it is. You should also plan a rebrand for the company, including a branding strategy, marketing materials and a suggestion for a company relaunch event. They would also like to create a new marketing department at their company to oversee the ideas that you create and they would like you to suggest a staf?ng structure for this department.

For this project, you should choose one of the following organisations:

  • PRS
  • Musicians Union
  • AIM
  • MMF

18 pages of non-text based coursework – can include graphs, images, business tools and text as appropriate

A portfolio of project documents that include:

  • A research-led review of the way that the company currently brands and markets itself including:
    • An analysis of the organisation using relevant business tools (e.g. SWOT & PEST)
    • A competitor analysis
    • An overview of the current music industry landscape that they are situated within
    • Suggested new branding for the company including a justi?cation for your choices and some sample marketing materials to supplement the new branding
    • A suggested staf?ng structure for a new marketing department
    • Guidance on some funding options that may be available for their new marketing materials
    • Guidance on the best way to protect the intellectual property of their branding and marketing materials.
    • A suggestion for a company relaunch event using research to evidence your choice

Professional Scenario:

You are looking to launch a new business and would like to secure funding from investors and stakeholders to support your startup. You will need to present your business idea to these investors and stakeholders.

You are required to deliver:

  • Revenue model
  • Market research
  • De?ned KPIs
  • Funding and ?nancing options, including the amount required from investors
  • Prototyping
  • Minimum Viable Product
  • Product feedback

Option 4: Festival Expansion

Professional Scenario –

“Fun-Fest” A local small music festival has asked you to help them expand from a 500-capacity indoor event to a 2000-capacity outdoor event with camping. They currently offer a mixed genre line-up of local artists and have sold out their last two events with tickets priced at 35. They have asked you to outline the technical, production and promotional elements that must be considered, alone with suggestions for increasing their ticket sales in line with the expansion.

  • Promotional ideas to increase ticket sales including; a marketing plan, brand or rebrand strategy and brand map.
  • A line-up poster with suggestions for suitable artists
  • Guidance on how the festival can protect the intellectual property associated with their event.
