Introduction
It is vital that health professionals such as doctors, psychiatrists and psychologists have a deep understanding of the major factors that are the contributing the onset of Bipolar 1 Disorder. Research has shown there are major contributing factors to the cause of Bipolar 1 Disorder. Within this essay it will be argued that even though Bipolar 1 Disorder is a mental disorder and is predominantly psychological, the disorder itself has a vary of factors contributing to its diagnosis. It will be argued that some of the major contributing factors towards the diagnoses of the mental illness are genetics, biological differences, environmental factors and substance abuse.
The discussion will first begin with a definition of the mental Disorder Bipolar 1, outlining the symptoms of the disorder, risks that are involved with the disorder (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The will be followed by the genetic factors that contribute to Bipolar 1 Disorder, the biological differences, and how this impacts the diagnoses of bipolar disorder (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. The final part of this discussion will talk about the environmental factors that contribute to the diagnoses of bipolar disorder(Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Overall it will be argued that the different points that will be discussed, are some of the main causes for bipolar disorder.
Definition of Bipolar Disorder
Defined by manic episodes that last at least 7 days, or by manic episodes that are severe that the person needs to be hospitalised, depressive episodes and mood elevation.
There are a range of symptoms of Bipolar disorder such as manic episodes, hypomanic episodes, Major depressive episodes.
Risks that are involved with Bipolar Disorder and the risks it has on life these can be risks associated with mania and the depressive states such as suicide risks and risk taking behaviour
