As a manager, you are part of a dynamic team and your hiring decisions will affect the quality of interactions between the new hire and the existing employees, as well as interactions with the company’s customers. Ultimately, such interactions directly influence sales and profitability. Your responsibility is to make hiring decisions that ensure these interactions have a positive influence.
Instructions
Research to understand the employment process within your organization, from the sourcing of candidates through completion of the hiring process. How does this process work? Work with your manager(s) to assist in your research and to identify the important attributes they look for when interviewing applicants for a vacant position.
Use the results of your research and this week’s content to write a comprehensive summary (300-500 words) answering the questions and prompts below. Review the content in this week’s readings and videos, and conduct additional outside research as needed.

- Compare and contrast internal vs. external applications and identify who is responsible for reviewing applications/resumes.
- Explain how job postings for an open position may be influenced by the organization’s staffing plan.
- Cite two examples of “red flags” in an application that may indicate that a candidate is not suitable for an open position and explain why.
