Within subject design are used during an experiment by exposing each participant to more than one part of experiment (Myers & Hansen, 2012). Between subject design uses different participants for each part of the experiment (Myers & Hansen, 2012). Large N designs are widely used for experiments when testing a number of subjects while Small n designs are used when tests a single subject or a couple of subjects (Myers & Hansen, 2012). With Small n designs the actions of the participants are studied many times and the experiment could take place over an extended period of time. Small n designs can be beneficial to an experiment when the researchers lack the participants to use a Large N design (Myers & Hansen, 2012). The use of Large N design can be useful for determining trends as it uses data collected from many subjects.
