In this task, AI can be used as specified for one or more parts of the assessment task as per the instructions.

You can use generative artificial intelligence (AI) in order to produce AI-generated images, for editing and translation purposes only.

Where used, AI must be used responsibly, clearly documented and appropriately acknowledged (see Learn HQ).

Any work submitted for a mark must:

1. represent a sincere demonstration of your human efforts, skills and subject knowledge that you will be accountable for.

2. adhere to the guidelines for AI use set for the assessment task.

3. reflect the University’s commitment to academic integrity and ethical behaviour.

Inappropriate AI use and/or AI use without acknowledgement will be considered a breach of academic integrity

Assessment description

This assessment has 2 parts:

Part 1 –  identity text (visual representation) that illustrates your experience your language(s)/literacy within different communities in relation to the topics explored in weeks 1-5. The identity text can be, for example, a traditional or digital  drawing, poster, photo, collage. AI can be used for generating the identity text.

Part 2 – Critical analysis of your identity text. The analysis needs to have a particular focus on the topics explored in week 1-5. You need to use all core readings from each week + at least 3 extra references . AI tools can be used for proof-reading your work (e.g. grammar, word choice).

Assessment details

Word Count Equivalent: 1,500 words

Weighting: 40%

Marking criteria

1. Representation of your experience with language/ literacy in different communities (10 marks)

2. Depth of critical analysis of personal experience in relation to the unit content (15 marks)

3. Engagement with theories and academic literature  (10 marks)

4. Presentation, including English expression, formatting and references (5 marks)

Submission instructions

If you are submitting your identity text as a separate document, there might be a problem with Turnitin (it won’t process anything less than 20 words). Please don’t worry about this. If you can see your document in ‘File submissions’, it means we can too and we will mark it. There is no need for the identity text part of the assessment to go through Turnitin.
