Learning Goal: I’m working on a poetry multi-part question and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.
Part 1: Creating or reciting a poem
Follow the instructions in the in this module to create a poem inspired by Robert Hayden’s “Those Winter Sundays.” (ATTACHED)
Reflection on Part 1
Write a paragraph reflecting on the exercise you completed for #1. What did you learn about poetry, the sounds of words, and your own writing or speaking?
Part 2: Listening to sounds in a new poem
Choose any song OR any piece of slam poetry (such as those from .) Write an analysis of the piece at least 300 words long that focuses on its sounds. In your first sentence, name the song/poem and artist, and include a link to the video or lyrics. Use as much of this week’s vocabulary as you can. In addition to simply identifying the sounds, also reflect on how the sounds affect the tone, meanings, and experience of the song/poem. (If you have trouble reaching 300 words, try explaining the song/poem phrase by phrase using class vocabulary–looking at lineation, speaker, figures of speech, imagery, diction, and so on.)
Quote from the poem in your paragraph, and remember to use this week’s vocabulary words. (SEE ATTACHMENTS)
Don’t do research or consult an AI. Do your own thinking. You can earn full credit for the post even if your interpretation is way off, as long as you answer fully, use the vocabulary correctly, and support your view with evidence from the poem.
