TOPIC: “Structured Educational Intervention with Culturally Tailored Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Education to Improve Outcomes in African American Male Patients”
PICOT: In African-American males between the ages of 18-64 diagnosed with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) (P), how does an inclusive and cultural education program (I) compared to standard education (C) affect comprehension of the disease process and perceived quality of life (O) within a 6-week timespan (T)?”
Data Collection and Analysis
This week, you will submit a substantive draft of what you have completed in terms of data collection and analysis. This should include a 5 page narrative, along with any tables or figures which are needed. Be sure to provide the data in a clear and understandable format and explain how the data collection process is consistent with your previously identified plan.
Rubric:
· Thoroughly explained data collection process incorporating faculty feedback from Wk 5
· Thoroughly explained data analysis incorporating faculty feedback from Wk 5
· Brief summary of the data collection and analysis process reflecting knowledge and application of statistical competency incorporating faculty feedback from Wk 5
· Used correct spelling, grammar, and professional vocabulary. Cited all sources using APA format. No errors.
Note: This week the pre-test, demographic questionnaire, POQZOL tool was completed for my project by the participants before the PowerPoint presentation. The participants also developed a personalized self-management plan. I also had the participants complete the consent form and assigned them participant numbers in the order that the consent form was returned. All data was recorded using the participant’s number. The participants attended a group 20-minute PowerPoint presentation on HIV basics in simple terms, treatment options, how HIV affects African American men, understanding lab results pertinent to HIV (viral load and CD4 count), dealing with shame and stigma, talking to family about HIV and community resources in the clinic’s conference room. I was able to recruit 26 participants. In week 5 of my project, participants will receive a 10-minute check-in phone call from the principal investigator to assess improvement in knowledge deficit, medication compliance, and overall well-being. The principal investigator will follow the script for each participant. I have attached the questions for my project and below will be the results for interpretation. I will also send the charts with results. The data collection process is consistent with my previously identified plan by following the methods of data collection I stated I would in my IRB application.
