The landscape of the rights debate assumption analysis
The purpose of this paper is for you to analyze these assumptions as a way of explaining to your friend the landscape of the rights debate. To do so, you should do the following:
Explain the debates about the success of universal human rights by showing the key differences between authors Lynn Hunt and Samuel Moyn (HINT: they are both advocates for universal rights, but clearly differ on what these rights are).
Explain the anthropological critique of universalist human rights claims by drawing on the work of Mel Herskovits (author of the 1947 AAA Statement on Human Rights), Mark Goodale, Sally Merry, and Anna-Belinda Preis (HINT: you cannot just argue that they all are relativists and thus opposed to universal rights, because what relativism means has changed quite dramatically in the last one hundred years).
NOTE: You do not need to take a personal position or make an argument; this assignment is designed to be informative and also explanatory. You also do not need to begin with a hypothesis or thesis. You must draw from and cite ALL assigned sources.
