General information:
This is a group assignment. Each group preferably consists of two students (maximum of three students and never allowed four). The organisation of a group is based on the members’ voluntarily uniting. Students are expected to actively discuss and work with the other members of their group. However, group assignments must not refer to or be similar to the work of any other group; any collusion of this form will be treated as academic misconduct and penalised.
A list of student names and their UOW email addresses will be available in Moodle by end of week 2 for you to contract each other to unite group. A forum for your recruiting group member, seeking group and discussion will be available in Moodle too. Students should initiatively to unite group as early as possible. While lecturer will provide necessary assistance in due time, the lecturer may have to ask/allow who m does not try effort in time and/or miss es chance to be in a group to work for the assignment individually. You are encouraged to communicate between group members by using Webex or Zoom.
The assessment is worth a total of 30% and involves a group written report component which will be worth 25% and an individual reflection component which will be worth 5%. As this is a group project, each section of the report must identify the name of the student who completes that section. The objective is to share the workload for the report equally amongst group members. Each student is also required to complete and submit a reflection form which constitutes the reflection component. This form requires the student t o reflect on the assessment process and group members’ performance. This form will be uploaded to the subject Moodle site.
The aim and requirements of this assignment. This assignment is a research into bank capital adequacy. The students are required to investigate and download the data form the bank homepages, regulator websites, and other source available in internets. Accordingly, the students analyse the c apital adequacy of three major Australian banks over the past four years (Year 2020 backward) and compare them to a group of any three major banks in other countries, such as UK., US., Japan, India, China, Indonesia, Malaysia or the county you was born / came from. Your report should address:
(1) T he relevant capital adequacy regulatory requirements applicable in the respective countries.
(2) The types of capital used by the banks and a discussion on whether the respective banks have a sufficient level of capital in the research years.
(3) The change of capital adequacy ratios in the four years and whether or not the changes are appropriate.
(4) The comparison of capital adequacy between the banks in two countries.
(5) The current argument and debate on Bank capital adequacy and necessary reform of Bank capital adequacy. This assignment will emphasize your understanding Capital Adequacy framework and real application, which is necessary preparation for you to work in banks and other financial institutions.
Suggested research steps:
To complete your research project, you may work in several steps. First, you refresh what you have learned in this subject, particularly, capital adequacy. Second, you review relevant literatures that have been published as journal articles, books and research reports. Third, you investigate into the banks or regulatory bodies on Capital Adequacy. Fourth, you collect useful data from your reviewed literature, investigated banks and regulatory bodies. Fifth, you calculate necessary indicators/parameters and make necessary tables, graphs and figures. Finally, you make analyses based on the information you obtained and then develop a research report for this assignment.
Report format
The required components above can be a reference to structure your research project, i.e., your research report should be well structured and logically developed. The report must be typed and neatly presented in a professional format. The length of the report should be no more than 3,000 words, excluding reference and appendices. Use 12 point font size Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing and standard margins. Tables, graphs and figures must be worked out by yourselves, rather than directly copied form the websites. All sources of information cited in the reported must be referenced (excluding those from textbook). If using the annual report, you must include the page number of the material referenced. It is not necessary to provide a reference for conceptual or methodological definitions, as it is assumed that you have read the textbook. Do not include Wikipedia or Investopedia as references!
A cover page with research topic, the names of your group member and student ID must be included in the report. It is a university policy to process assignment in Turnitin system before submission. If the similarity is over 20%, the report is considered non-initiative work in some extent and penalty may be applied. Thus, you are required to submit a soft copy of research report in word version via the T urnitin system, with similarity being under 20% . Your assignment will not be marked if it is not in word version and not submitted via Turnitin. The file name should be the group leader or submitter’s name and ID. Only one submission with one Word file from a group is required. (More information will be provided in due time). The reflection report is required to submit individually in a different link. Please read this assignment instruction carefully and do not hesitate to consult with me if you need further clarification. Any neglect and carelessness may waste your time and/or incur penalty.
