Public administration is both an applied and theoretical field of study. Select a concept of interest to you in the field of public administration (such as privatization, administrative discretion, etc.). Using the concept you selected, write an analysis paper that incorporates both real world application of the concept as well as academic applications.
You should use reputable news sources (national or regional newspapers) to document the real world application of the concept. Fully explain the event selected to illustrate the concept and HOW it highlights important aspects of this concept. Provide at least two citations.
Using scholarly, peer reviewed academic journals, find one or more empirical treatments of the concept. Explain how scholars have incorporated this concept into their work. Provide at least one scholarly peer reviewed journal citation.
Your essay should be 3-4 pages, double spaced. This is NOT a summary assignment. You should only summarize sources in order to illustrate and apply concepts. You must cite your sources. Remember to adequately paraphrase all sources, and use quotation marks where appropriate. Your essay should follow traditional format including a concise introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion. All paragraphs should be clearly organized around a thesis statement. Papers should be carefully edited for grammar and spelling before submission. Suggestion: Introduce the topic in the first paragraph or two (this where you should first cite the news sources). Then, spend the rest of the paper analyzing the topic in the context of peer-reviewed journal articles.
