You should begin your paper by introducing your topic (the problem or question), stating a clear thesis (your claim), and summarizing your argument and the key evidence that you will present for your claim. The body of your paper should expand on these issues in sections labeled with subheadings that establish the historical and historiographic context for your topic, explain and elaborate on your thesis, and present detailed arguments supported by primary and secondary sources of evidence. Your paper must be carefully documented with footnotes to relevant scholarly sources. Your paper must also be illustrated with all images relevant to your argument. Include all images at the end of the paper labeled with figure numbers and all applicable identifying information (subject, location, date, artist, etc.) As always, format notes according to the Chicago Manual of Style.
