Writing- up your Research Project
Table 1 sets out the characteristic sections of your workplace research project report. Your literature review will be approximately 2,500 words, with the remaining sections comprising 2,500 words, excluding appendices. The appendix section can be used to help present information, such as reflective journal notes, tables and analysis.

Section

Purpose of Section

Title Page

To provide a clear and concise heading for your project.  It should be sufficiently broad to encompass the scope of your study.

Contents Page(s)

To indicate the page numbers of the main section headings and appropriate subsection headings.

Abstract

A 250-word summary of the project including a statement of its aim and hypotheses, methods used, research findings and your conclusions.

Introduction

State a clear overall purpose for your project.
Define the question or curriculum issue you are addressing.  Provide definitions of key words in this section.

Literature Review

(2,500 words)

This literature review will show your awareness of key issues and literature related to your area of study. For example, you can:
•       summarise what conclusions were reached and whether different writers/researchers agreed or were in conflict with each other.
•       highlight main issues and controversies around the issue or problem.
•       show how your study fits in with the literature discussed.

Method/Research Design

Describe and justify the research method used, i.e. the process that you will undertake to conduct your study. For example, why you will collect observations of practice, conduct surveys or interview participants. Use research method literature specific to your methodology/design to support your method.   (approximately 2 pages in length)

Analysis

Discuss the way that you conducted your analysis of your data:
·         How did you collect data?
·         What type of data are you analysing?
·         How are you approaching your data analysis?- i.e.,
What type of coding are you using?
What content are you searching for?
How are you grouping the data?
Are you using tables and graphs to present the data?
                Are you analysing discourse?

Findings &
Conclusion

Discuss your analysis findings from your study:
·         What happened?  How does your data answer your research question?
·         How did the ideas/findings from other studies (cited in your literature review) compare with your study’s findings?
·         Did you answer your research question, or solve your practice dilemma?
·         What would you do differently next time?

Limitations

Note the limitations of your project and your findings.

References

List all reference materials cited in the report alphabetically- according to the Harvard method

Appendices
