The purpose writing a paper proposal is to give your professor, TA, and/or peers an opportunity to provide feedback on your topic, argument, and research goals. Perhaps most importantly, a paper proposal requires you to narrow your topic and begin formulating the argument you’ll make.
THIS MUST BE TYPED (TIMES NEW ROMAN 12PT), DOUBLE SPACED AND BROKEN DOWN INTO FIVE SECTIONS. YOUR PROPOSAL SHOULD BE AT LEAST 750 WORDS.
Introduction and Background Significance
Think about your introduction as a narrative written in several (4) paragraphs that succinctly answer the following four questions:
1 What is the central research problem? State the research problem and give a detailed explanation about the purpose of the study. This is particularly important if the problem is complex or multifaceted.
2 What is the topic of study (discussions or conversations) related to that problem? Present the rationale of your proposed study and clearly indicate why it is worth doing. Answer the “So What? question [i.e., why should anyone care].
3 What methods should be used to analyze the research problem? Refer to page one in your textbooks. Explain how you plan to go about conducting your research. Clearly identify the key sources you intend to use and explain how they will contribute to your analysis of the topic. *YOU MUST INCLUDE AT LEAST 3 SOURCES HERE.
4 Why is this important research, what is its significance, and why should someone reading the proposal care about the outcomes of the proposed study?
5 Provide definitions of key concepts or terms. (Ex: list any terms/definitions associated with your study, group/country)
