Use resource-based theory to assess the strength of Netflix. Identify and describe at least three key resources and explain the degree to which you think they can be considered true strategic resources. Describe what you see as Netflix’s core competency. How do the resources you described contribute to that skill set? Remember that these resources should be specific to Netflix. A condition in the environment around them would not be a strategic resource. Format this as a professional document that you would provide to a manager. Headings, sub-headings, bullet points are all good organizational tools. This is not an essay. No “I” or “we” should be used. Identify three resources. Apply the theory to each of those three resources. Break for paragraphs as appropriate and professional. Each resource should get its own paragraph. Examples Important Points to Remember 1. Resources such as Southwest’s culture that reflect all four qualities (valuable, rare, difficult to imitate and nonsubstitutable), are ideal because they can create sustained competitive advantages. A resource that has three or less of the qualities can provide an edge in the short term, but competitors can overcome such an advantage eventually. 2. Companies often bundle together multiple resources and strategies (that may not be unique in and of themselves) to create uniquely powerful combinations. Southwest’s culture is complemented by approaches that individually could be copied (e.g. the airline’s emphasis on direct flights, its reliance on one type of plane, and its unique system for passenger boarding), in order to create a unique business model in which effectiveness and efficiency is the envy of competitors. 3. Satisfying only one or two of the valuable, rare, difficult to imitate, nonsubstitutable criteria will likely only lead to competitive parity or a temporary advantage. use my book for reference 4.1 Resource-Based Theory | Mastering Strategic Management (flatworldknowledge.com)
