This week’s writing assignment is a structured poem known as a villanelle. You can find the structure/format/rhyme scheme for a villanelle in the Poetry Live Session and Presentation materials.
Please pay careful attention to the rhyme scheme and which lines are repeated where. This structure requires attention to detail and a bit of playing around with each stanza. It can be about any topic you choose, though I recommend you consider a high level theme that you’d like to explore. The example villanelle in this week’s module is a very famous poem where the author is exploring (and enraged by) his father’s eventual passing, and the feeling that his father was not fighting to stay alive. Poetry does best when you pick meaningful moments, passionate topics. For both of our sakes, find something that has meaning to you!
