Scenario:
The nurse must continue to be aware and informed of evolving threats while maintaining up-to-date training and knowledge of effective responses to public health disasters.
You have been asked by your manager to create a presentation to:
Explain to your peers the three critical components of disaster preparedness: mental health preparedness, individual preparedness, and family preparedness.
You will need to incorporate guidelines for nurses at your facility responding to patients after a public emergency or disaster, explain the items needed for an emergency preparedness kit and discuss trends and issues in emergency preparedness. You will need to go through your home or that of a friend or relative and make a list of household items or materials that are present that you think are essential to include in a 72-hour personal or family emergency preparedness kit. You will also need to identify and create a second list of items that you feel are necessary but that are not present in the home. You will incorporate these findings as you answer the following questions:
1. What do I need to know about community preparedness issues?
2. What do I need to know about disaster mental health?
The PowerPoint presentation should be in APA format and include:
Title slide (include your name and section number) and brief introduction of project (1 slide).
List of items found in your home for your 72 hour kit (1 slide)
List of items not found in your home for your 72 hour kit (1 slide)
Supporting content that answers the two questions (6-8 slides)
Conclusion (1 slide)
References (4 total Two (2) references from required course materials and two (2) peer-reviewed references )(1 slide)
