Module Description
The aim of this module is to provide the students with opportunities to acquire skills and develop their knowledge in preparation for their second practice placement in a Social Care setting. The module will support students to reflect on their first practice placement learning and to develop their ability to critically reflect on their own current and future practice and their experience of engaging with the standards of proficiencies.The students wil be provided with a clear understanding of the roles and responsibility of the TUS practice placement team and placement documentation. The student will be supported in applying the Standards of Proficiency into the day-to-day practice of Social Care. The TUS Code of Conduct and TUS Fitness to Practice will form a central element of this integration. Tasks will be given to help the student to identify their learning needs, which will inform the placement allocation process.The module will prepare the students for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary team work, supervision and reflective practise. This module is guided by the framework of the Standards of Proficiencies for Social Care Work.
This Module is a Pre-Requisite for proceeding on Placement.
In order to proceed on placement students must pass all elements -meet the attendance requirements and pass both Assessments – Problem-Solving Case Scenario (30%)(FE) & Reflexive Report (70%)(FE). Formative Feedback will be given to the students on their Problem-Solving Case Scenario (30%) and they will have an opportunity to re-submit prior to starting placement, if necessary.
If a student fails their Placement Preparation Module or Placement Preparation assignments as outlined, they cannot proceed to placement. They must also meet the attendance requirements. If a student fails the attendance requirement this will be recorded as an IA at the exam Board, and they will be required to repeat and attend at the next available opportunity.

Understand the need to build and sustain professional relationships, as both an independent practitioner and collaboratively as a member of a team
The role and impact of effective interdisciplinary team working, in meeting service user needs and be able to effectively contribute to decision-making within a team setting
Principles of professional decision-making/informed decisions, within the context of competing demands including those relating to ethical conflicts and available resources
Advocating for Service Users in Professional Contexts
The role of the social care worker as an advocate for service users in care planning, care reviews and professional team meetings.
Record keeping and report writing – principles and good practice in professional decision-making when record keeping and report writing.

Relationship- Based Practice
The use of reflection to develop a critical perspective of the self as a social care worker in building and maintaining relationships with service users across the lifespan in a variety of social care settings. Understanding the dynamics of the relationship between social care workers and service users (transference and counter transference). The constructive use of Supervision
The importance of supervision as a constructive tool, to identify individual learning and development needs, through CPD, ongoing feedback and performance management activities. Assessment Strategy
Students must ensure that they hold a 100% attendance rate for this module. This module is a pre-requisite, students are required to meet attendance requirements and pass all the assessments elements as outlined, in order to proceed on placement. Students who fail to do so cannot proceed to placement and will be required to repeat the module. Formative feedback will be given to students after their first assignment and there will be opportunity to resubmit the assignment to address the feedback.
All assessment components for the module must be attempted and passed in order to pass the module.
ASSESSMENTS:
- Individual Written Refection ( 70% Failed Element)– Students are required to demonstrate their developing knowledge, skills and critical understanding of each learning objective associated with this modules content. Students should conduct a retrospective analysis relating to their Practise Placement 1, and demonstrate how they have applied their learning and located their practise; within the content of the relevant Standards of Proficiency.
- Individual Problem-Solving Case Scenario (30% Failed Element )– Students are required to undertake a problemsolving case scenario. This problem-solving case scenario will require the student to demonstrate their understanding of effective multidisciplinary team working. The report should identify clearly how the students has developed greater awareness of the characteristics of effective multidisciplinary team working, care planning, ethical decision-making in social care work.
The students must pass both components and meet the attendance requirements in order to proceed on placement.
Repeat Assessment Strategies
Students who fail the initial assessment strategy will be required to repeat the same assessments. The repeat assessments are as follows:
1. Individual Written Reflection (70% Failed Element)
2. Individual Problem-Solving Case Scenario (30% Failed Element)
In the event that you fail one of the above elements you will be required to repeat the one you fail. In the event you fail both you will be required to repeat both assessments. You must also meet the attendance Requirements for the Module.
