A home visit is a time to develop a reciprocal relationship with a child and their family in the context of their home. This is an opportunity to learn about the familys strengths, expectations, values, and child-rearing practices. Knowing about and understanding the family culture supports how the teacher or caregiver develops a learning environment to support the childs development. This relationship between the family and teacher is reciprocal; both have information to share and gain. For this assignment, you will complete two related activities:
Choose a family and conduct a home visit by completing the Family History Interview form as a guide.
Write a reflection paper (following APA style) about the knowledge and understanding you have gained about the child, their family, and their culture based on the home visit experience. Your reflection will include examples about:
Your knowledge and understanding of how a familys culture supports the development of the child (2a)
How you will build respectful relationships to support and engage families(2b)
Ideas about how to involve families and communities to support the childs development and learning in the classroom through either the environment, teaching strategies, and activity plans (2c)
The assignment should include scholarly writing and APA format.
