Imagine you are a client looking for a counsellor and/or psychotherapist. Imagine that you are struggling with a particular issue or have experienced a challenging life event (nothing too serious) and decide that you would like some psychological support.

1 (a) Go onto the internet and spend at least 20 minutes looking for a Counsellor and/or Psychotherapist.
Choose one person and write a short description (approx. 150 words) of the process you went through in order to decide who you would like to support you.
2. Read
McLeod, J. (2019) An Introduction to Counselling and Psychotherapy, read pages.3 – 12 ‘What it’s like to be a client’ and pages, 13 – 26 ‘What it’s like to be a therapist’.
Make a note of what came up for you,
a. what did you learn, think and feel?
b. Who did you choose as a therapist and why?
c. What was the experience of looking for a therapist like? What did you learn from the reading?
3. Write down a list of all the words you associate with Counselling and all the words you associate with Psychotherapy.
