You will begin this section by summarizing the data you are using for the paper. What is the target population (location & time)? What is the unit of analysis? What was the sampling strategy? You will need to include all these elements but describe them in a way that flows in the paper using plain language (avoid jargon and avoid prose that reads like a list). 2. After you describe the data set,

1. You will begin this section by summarizing the data you are using for the paper. What is the target population (location & time)? What is the unit of analysis? What was the sampling strategy? You will need to include all these elements but describe them in a way that flows in the paper using plain language (avoid jargon and avoid prose that reads like a list).
2. After you describe the data set, you will provide a narrative description of the data. This is a description in paragraph form of the summary characteristics of the data. You will summarize the data by quartiles of median income (be sure to describe them in accessible terms to the reader (for example – it is not obvious to a reader whether quartile 1 describes the highest or lowest income districts) to show how the data varies across quartiles of median income. Your description must include:
i. Average rate of carjackings
ii. Average rate of street robbery
iii. Average rate of residential robbery
iv. Average rate of aggravated assault
v. Average rate of shootings
vi. Average median income
vii. At least one other description of average crime rate
3. You will also create a descriptive table, that presents all the required descriptive information listed above in table form. See ELMS for a sample of formatting guidelines for the table.
4. You will then describe the analytic plan you are going to implement in order to test your hypothesis. You will perform the following analyses:
a. ANOVA & F-test: you will define your groups as quartiles of median income.
b. OLS Regression: A regression of average rate of carjackings on median income.
Your description should include an explanation of how each of the hypothesis tests is designed to inform the overarching research question. What will the results of each test demonstrate?
5. Then, you are going to provide a justification for why these particular hypothesis tests are
appropriate to test the hypotheses that you’ve articulated. For this justification you want to include whether the analysis meets the necessary conditions to conduct a valid test and also how the results of the test would provide insight into the phenomenon you are attempting to describe.
