How three of Cohen’s theses help us interpret

More details;

It’s not really simple but I will try:

  1. Ulysses by James Joyce, the modernistic masterpiece, one of the most difficult books to read but it’s totally worth your attention. I think, everybody should even try to face it.
  2. Beautiful Losers by Leonard Cohen, before his golden voice had been discovered, Cohen used to be poet and novelist. This book tells a real weird story in some poetical way. There are many culture references and it’s full Cohen’s very sarcastic visions of religion, politics and philosophy.
  3. The Magic Mountain by Thomas Mann, if you ever think about passing time and possibilities to catch it, you’re gonna love this book. A beautiful story about life real meaning.
  4. The Flowers of Evil by Charles Baudelaire, this volume of French poet showed me that poetry definitly isn’t boring. There are many controversial and seditious lines about ugliness, also death or Satan.

  5. Paradise Lost by John Milton, the epic poem in blank verse is the milestone of English literature. The book is about Lucifer’s fall, creating the world and finally the original sin and it is a great addition to well-known Bible’s story.
  6. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, the dark vision of modern world that can slowly come out real. One of the best dystopies ever!
  7. My Lobotomy by Howard Dully, it’s an autobiography of man who survived this cruel surgery. He discribes what’s changed in his life after lobotomy and tells the long story of searching for the happiness in life.
  8. A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony Burgess, linguistic experiment asking the question about violence and how to fight it. The movie based on Burgess’s book is a total classic now but we must remember what was first. 🙂
  9. Misery by Stephen King, my favourite book written by the Master of Horror. But Misery isn’t typical King’s scary story, rather some psychological thriller. Keeps in suspense till the last page.
  10. The Complete Poetry & Prose of William Blake, Blake is one of the most interesting poets ever. Prophet, painter and author of his own symbolic philosophy. It’s not easy to move around his world, but for me, it was an unforgettable adventure.
