As stated in the case study, you are required to prepare a report to the founder and 100% shareholder Sam Abdesselam. Assume your report will also be used by the COO, Fred Finklestein, who has limited knowledge of accounting.
Explain all calculations and theory so that even Fred will understand. The expectation is that you will use your textbook and class notes to briefly explain concepts, appropriately citing when using the textbook directly.
To provide a little clarification on case information for A/R – Cutthroat Kitchen’s $30,000 receivable amount is included in the 61-90 days balance of $75,600. Therefore, when you do the entry to write off the balance, remember to remove it from the 61-90 days category before determining the AFDA estimate.
The breakdown of the 50 marks is as follows:
Journal entries and calculations – 25 marks
Explanations and discussion – 20 marks
Overall presentation (layout, clarity) – 5 marks
- Consider an overall introduction that clarifies what accounting guidelines are being followed (ie. ASPE vs IFRS) along with identifying your users and their needs.
- Consider the use of headings to give the report clarity and separation between the items identified by Sam (eg. Delivery Truck, Accounts Receivable, etc.)
