NSG 310 Topic 2: Nursing Standards of Practice and Ethics / NSG 310: Introduction to Professional Nursing

This topic will look at the Nurse Practice Act and how it impacts the practice of a nurse, nursing licensure and certification, and the care of clients. This will include what scope of practice covers as an advanced practice RN, a BSN, an ADN, an LPN, and unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP). The ANA Code of Ethics and the ANA Social Policy Statement will be addressed.

Objectives:

1. Explore the State Nurse Practice Act and how it regulates professional nursing practice.
2. Discuss the primary roles and scope of practice of the registered nurse (RN), licensed practical nurse (LPN), and unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP).
3. Review the scope and standards of professional nursing practice and the local, state, national, and global organizations that regulate the profession of nursing.
