Background to the theme
The OECD defines globalisation as the following.
‘’The geographic dispersion of industrial and service activities, for example research development, sourcing of factor inputs, production and distribution, and the cross –border networking of companies, for example through joint ventures and the sharing of assets.’’
Globalisation has led to increasing competition and an economic and financial shift from developing to emerging economies. It promotes a sense of cultural awareness, international co-operation and global economic interdependency. Those multi-national companies that are successful have had to devise and customise new strategies for doing business in emerging markets and implement new business models to stay ahead of the competition.
Scenario
You are the Product Design Manager for a large fashion company who design, manufacture and sell their products to many of the leading fashion retailers around the world.
You have been given the challenged to create and market a brand-new summer shoe to compete with the big name brands, along with putting together a launch event to sell the product to major industry representatives during London fashion week taking place on the 16th – 20th February 2019.
As the project manager you are see that the product is completed well in time, test the market and signed off by the board before going to London fashion week.
Task
You are to;
a) Establish your aims and objectives for the project. Outline objectives and timeframes based on the scenario set.
b) Produce an appropriate project management plan that includes relevant actions to meet objectives and timeframes.
c) Conduct research to generate knowledge which will form the basis for analysis of the scenario posed in the brief.
d) Analyse your findings and draw conclusions to form the basis for recommendations.
e) Present and produce your project in an appropriate manner for the intended audience.
f) Communicate your recommendations in an appropriate manner for the intended audience.
g) Complete a performance review that addresses the following:
a. The success of the project and its usefulness in supporting organisational performance.
b. Your own performance.

1. A complete project management plan (a and b)
2. A small scale research (c, d, e and f)
3. Performance review (g)
4. Notes of your progress on the project (for e.g. a logbook or diary)
