Your first assignment is a short comparative about the creation myths that we have studied so far. You need to find a thread that you find interesting that connects the myths, and explore how that thread shows up across the stories. You could be comparing the differences between how each myth explores your thread, or the similarities. I’ve chosen “How is the concept of sin or evil presented in the creation myths?” as my topic FAQ for project You could compare or contrast two, three or all of them – you will obviously need a minimum of two. Can I explore myths that we haven’t studied in class? Yes! I would love to learn about myths that we haven’t covered. Should I bring in critical theory? It would be the icing on the cake if you could. Use the ideas of Bernard de Fontanelle, or David Hume, or Claude Levi-Strauss, or Plato, or any other philosopher that you can research. We will cover these in more detail as the course progresses.
